John cares deeply about the community he has called home for 29 years. While on Council, he continues to focus on improving services and quality of life for the citizens of community.
Safety is a paramount issue to John and he has worked hard with both the fire and police departments to ensure they have the resources they need---including a new fire station and police detachment. He also believes we should look at ways to improve school zone safety for our children.
Recreation is equally important and John is excited about the new MacDonald island recreation complex that will house a variety of sports, including a 50 metre pool and children's water park. The facility is also the new home for the Public library with expanded services and programs. It promises to be a positive addition to the community and will greatly improve quality of life for everyone who lives and works here.
Transportation is also a priority for John. He hopes to focus even more on effective parking strategy for the downtown as well as residential areas. An anylsis and implementation of light synchronization to improve traffic flow should be looked at.
He also hopes to focus municipal programs on more environmental transportation practices, enhanced recycling program (curbside green box), improved snow removal, cleaning and paving programs.
He will also continue to be a strong advocate of a ring road to reduce traffic volume downtown and take dangerous goods away from our city core.
An issue that will also be a priority is acquiring land to address our need for futher commercial and industrial land.
John will work hard to expand affordable housing for all income levels and ensuring that the community has the infrastructure needed to address all the growth in the region. This can only come from true consultation and collaboration with all levels of government, the oil industry and small businesses. He also understands that the blueprints for future development and success in our region, can be created through local expertise.
The bottom line is John believes it is important to listen to citizens and make sure he is representing their needs and voicing their concerns!
